Labour Day Celebrations: CHRC Prevails over BUNEC in a Football Match of Strong Symbolic Significance

Yaounde, 28 April 2026
As part of preparatory activities to celebrate the 140th International Labour Day, the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC) and the National Civil Status Registration Office (BUNEC) played a friendly football match on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, at the Nfandena Annex Stadium No. 1 in Yaoundé.
The CHRC won the match by 4 goals to 2, at the end of a particularly lively encounter marked by fair play and conviviality.
Beyond its sporting dimension, the fixture carried strong symbolic significance in light of the complementary mandates of the two institutions.
While BUNEC works to guarantee the legal identity of citizens through the registration of civil status events, the CHRC ensures the promotion and protection of their fundamental rights.
The match thus provided a concrete illustration of the chain of citizen protection, ranging from legal recognition to the effective guarantee of rights. It took place in the presence of Commissioners Denis Nkwebo and Joseph Constantin Balla for the CHRC, as well as Chimène Ndonkep, Director of Standardisation and Control of Civil Status Registries for BUNEC.
A strong mobilisation of staff from both institutions was also observed.
At the end of the match, Commissioner Joseph Constantin Balla, speaking on behalf of the Chairperson of the CHRC, and the representative of BUNEC commended the relevance of the initiative, which contributes to strengthening institutional cooperation and cohesion among staff members. They further expressed the wish to see this encounter renewed in the years to come.
