On the occasion of the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), held from 12 to 21 October 2026 in Dakar, Senegal, the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC), represented by Commissioner BOUBA Hawe HAMAN, presented its Statement on the human rights situation in Cameroon during the intersessional period.
The Statement highlights several advances, particularly in inclusive education, health, political participation and the fight against gender-based violence. It also raises ongoing concerns regarding insecurity in certain regions of the country, violence against women and children, as well as drug consumption and the harmful use of alcohol among young people.
The CHRC also outlines its main activities in promoting and protecting human rights, handling complaints, preventing torture in places of deprivation of liberty, and cooperating with national stakeholders and African and international human rights protection mechanisms.
