CHRC hosts the General Assembly of the Technical Committee(TC) 63 in charge of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.

The Cameroon Human Rights Commission, in its mandate to promote and protect human rights, hosted the General Assembly of the Technical Committee(TC) 63 in charge of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment on Wednesday, 29 April 2025 at the Chemuta Divine Banda Conference Room. This meeting was chaired by Mr Mohamadou Awal, Technical Advisor N°3 and personal representative of the General Manager of ANOR. In his opening address, Mr Mohamadou Awal expressed his gratitude to the Chairperson of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission, Prof James Mouangue Kobila for accepting to host the General Assembly of the Technical Committee and for his unwavering support towards the Committee.
The objectives of this general assembly include; a) the presentation of ANOR, b) presentation of the functioning of the technical committee and c) the election of the technical committee bureau.
Following the elections exercise done by acclamation, 7 members were elected to manage the technical committee bureau in the position of President, Vice-President and Technical Advisers. Worth noting is the fact that for the CHRC, Prof Joyce Bayande Mbongo epse Endeley, Commissioner of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission was voted president of the Committee and Mme Meva’a Yvonne of the Ministry of Justice (MINJUSTICE) and Mme Obam Ongola, of the Ministry of Women empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF) as Vice-president respectively.
The newly elected president, Prof Joyce Bayande Mbongo epse Endeley thanked all the stakeholders for electing her into this important position and promised to do her best to meet the expectations. she further explained the mandate of the technical committee by highlighting the adoption of documents that will help fight against gender inequality in public and private institutions including the consequences of triple roles on women of child bearing age in terms of reproduction, production and social community. The president equally announced that there will be a meeting as soon as the decision appointing the bureau is signed by ANOR.
This General Assembly of the Technical Committee (CM) 63 was attended by a total of twenty-five (25) stakeholders from different government institutions such as the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Ministry of Territorial Administration, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Ministry of Work and Professional Training, Ministry of Social Affairs as well as Civil Society Organisations namely Horizons Femmes, groupe de travail des OSC sur le genre et les politiques publiques au Cameroun (GTOG), Association d’Appui au développement de droit Camerounais (CRADEC) and Association camerounaise des femmes médecins du Cameroun(ACAFEM)
At the end, Prof Endeley thanked all the participants for their presence and participation in the meeting as she once more, reiterated on active and meaningful participation of each and every one in subsequent meetings in order to assist Cameroon to adopt and adapt pertinent norm in the field of gender equality and women empowerment.
