On Friday, 15th May 2025, the North West Regional Branch Office of the CHRC, in partnership with Treasure Centre, Holy Rosary Sisters of Akum, and Lilian Foundation co-organized a public awareness raising caravan walk in the Bamenda I Sub Division of Mezam Division. This annual activity on education for children with intellectual disabilities and rare disorder was intended to cause parents make use of the available services in Bamenda. This center has both an inclusive section, and a special needs section. This year’s campaign was commemorated under the theme: “Education for All: Promoting Education Technologies for Inclusive Education”

*Main Objective :*

The main objective of the campaign was to raise public awareness on the need and possibilities of educating children with intellectual disabilities, and rare disorders.

The specific objective was to raise public awareness on the complaint mechanism through direct complaints to the Regional Branch office and through the Toll free number.

Methodology:

The activity started with a panel discussion at Sport Sky Community Radio F.M 96.1 MHz. This was followed by a caravan walk from the esplanade of the Governor junction with display of placards, chanting of songs, and sensitization through a public address system, and distribution of fliers.

The Cameroon Human Rights Commission led the convoy closely followed by Children of the Treasure Centre and their personnel, students of the Holy Rosary College, reverend Sisters, and parents. Over 350 persons actively participated in this exercise. Campaign messages were centered on zero stigmatization of children with disabilities, and the special education of children with congenital disabilities, like rare disorders, dawn’s syndrome, trisomy 21 mutation, etc. The popular slogan was, education adapted to all. Treasure Centre offers inclusive education, special needs education, and socialization to children with congenital intellectual disabilities.

The public was also encouraged to report all cases of discrimination, or violations against children with disabilities especially in the educational environment to the Commission either directly to the Regional Office or through Toll Free Number 1523.

The activity culminated into another panel discussion at the Treasure Centre where many issues affecting children with psycho physiological disorders were examined.

The occasion ended on a good note with lots of animations and visits to the craft stands showcased by the children.
