GALEGA GANA Raphael was born on 26 May 1956 in Bali Nyonga, of GALEGA Fon of Bali Nyonga and Regina BIDIMIA GALEGA. He is from the North-West Region of Cameroon, married and father of five children.
He is a career diplomat and joined the civil service in February 1988. He is a Minister Plenipotentiary of exceptional class. Prior to the current position, he was Cameroon Consul General in Paris, France.
Concerning his school and university career, in 1968, he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate at Saint Anthony’s Boy’s School-Njunikom. In 1973, he obtained the General Certificate of Education-Ordinary Level at St Bedes College Asting-Kom. ln 1975, he obtained the General Certificate of Education-Advance Level at Cameroon College of Arts, Science and Technology, Bambili. ln 1977, he obtained the Diploma of Fundamental University Studies at the University of Yaoundé. ln 1983, he obtained a Combined Honours at the University of Nigeria in French and German and in 1985, a Master’s degree in International Relations at IRIC. In 1988, he obtained a 3rd cycle Doctorate in International Relations at IRIC and from 2011-2015, he was a PhD student at the Centre d’Études Diplomatiques et Stratégiques in France.
As regards his professional experience, he worked as an executive officer in the Legal Affairs and Treaties Directorate of MINREX from February 1988 to August 1988. He was then appointed Deputy Head of the Legal Affairs Service from August 1988 to March 1991. He was promoted to Head of the Commonwealth Economic, Technical and Cultural Organizations Service in the Intergovernmental Cooperation Directorate of MINREX from March 1991 to January 1997. He was appointed Deputy Director of the Political, Legal and Social Organs of the Commonwealth at the Commonwealth Directorate of MINREX from January 1997 to May 2020. And from May 2002 to April 2006, he was Second Counsellor at the Cameroon Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. From April 2006 to November 2017, he was Cameroon Consul General in Paris.
Since February 2021, he is the Vice-Chairman of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission. He is also a Chevalier de l’Ordre de la valeur.
