The Cameroon Human Rights Commission enforces the right to justice of the 7-year-old ASSIGA ONANA Antoinette, a victim of sexual abuse.
Mr ASSIGA ONANA Fulbert approached the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC) on 2 November 2022 at 1:31 pm to report the violation of his daughter's right to justice. ASSIGA Antoinette, aged seven, was raped.
The Chairperson of the Sub-Commission on Human Rights Protection instructed the Commission's Observation, Investigation and Alert Unit (OIA) to carry out on-site visits to the Minkoameyos Gendarmerie Brigade on 15 November and 23 December 2022, where Mr ASSIGA ONANA, the father of the victim, had filed a complaint.
The OIA Unit's actions (hearings and investigative missions), working in close collaboration with the officials of the above-mentioned Brigade, led to the arrest, hearing and transfer of Paulin ONANA, aged 30, to the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Yaounde Administrative Centre Court of First Instance on Monday 26 December 2022. They also enabled Ms ASSIGA ONANA to identify him as her aggressor.
The procedure is now underway before the competent court.
Miss ASSIGA's right to justice was preserved thanks to the Commission's actions in this case.
The CHRC calls on all victims and witnesses of human rights violations to contact it, including via its toll-free number 1523.
