The
remobilisation meeting organised by Prof James Mouangue Kobila on 11 January
2024 was a great moment of sharing. Before the meeting began, a minute's
silence was observed in memory of Commissioner Salihou LABARANG, who died on
the night of the 25 and 26 of December 2023 and whose memory, said the
Chairperson, “is inscribed deep within us, in the tenderest part of our
hearts”.
The
Chairperson wished everyone a “fertile and prosperous year, colored in your
favourite shades, with peace of mind”. He also wished “that the New Year will
enable us to raise the stature of human dignity even higher”.
During the
meeting, the current Chairperson of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC)
reminded the Commissioners and all staff members that this year should be a
year of remobilisation. “I congratulate you for the work you did last year.
This year, we must focus more on work and sincere cooperation, and turn our
backs on imperfections and harmful practices. Everyone must carry out his or
her work in 2024,” advised Prof James Mouangue Kobila.
After
presenting the major challenges for 2024 for the institution for which he is
responsible, including certain activities to be carried out, the commissioners
discussed the budget. Some good news was announced, notably the full payment of
all arrears owed to commissioners and staff. These assurances drew smiles from
the audience. The year 2024, in the Institution will be an important year for
the CHRC and for the promotion and protection of human rights in Cameroon.
