CHRC Representatives Sworn In to Refugee Status Commission in Cameroon

Two senior staff of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC), Madam Shu Nyamboli Mabel and Mr Tchoutat Armany, have been designated to serve on the Commission for Eligibility to the Status of Refugees. Their appointment is in line with Order No. 0002/DIPL/CAB of 23 January 2026 and Presidential Decree No. 2011/389 of 28 November 2011 on the organisation and functioning of refugee status management bodies in Cameroon.
The members of the Commission for Eligibility to the Status of Refugees and the Refugee Appeals Board were sworn into office on 13 August 2026 at the Mfoundi High Court in Yaoundé. The ceremony marks a key milestone in the transfer of Refugee Status Determination responsibilities from UNHCR to the Government of Cameroon.
With its participation, the CHRC will help ensure that refugee status determination processes uphold human rights, fairness, and the protection of asylum seekers and refugees in Cameroon.
