SAGO 2025: The CHRC mobilises to bring the National Human Rights Institution closer to citizens

The 14th edition of the Government Action Fair (SAGO 2025) officially kicked off today, Monday, 30 June 2025, at the Esplanade of Yaoundé City Hall, under the high patronage of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, who was represented by the Minister of Communication. This year’s event is held under the theme: Public Service in the Face of Cameroon’s Economic Growth Imperative. The objective of SAGO 2025 is to foster transparency, accountability, and the modernization of government actions as key pillars of Inclusive and sustainable development.
The opening ceremony, which began at 12 noon, was attended by government officials, heads of institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society organizations, the media, and the general public.
The Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CHRC) is among the numerous national institutions participating in this annual event, which offers a unique platform for showcasing public policy reforms, institutional innovations, and service delivery mechanisms across ministries, public service institutions, and decentralized entities.
To highlight the Commission’s presence at the fair following the opening ceremony, staff members of the CHRC have been actively engaging with the public to raise awareness about the Commission’s mandate and operations. This has been done through the display of various awareness-raising materials, including:
- Actions and the Human Rights Situation (2020–2023);
- Compendium of Statements and Press Releases (2021–2024);
- State of Human Rights Report (2019–2022) and the Activity Reports.
In addition, CHRC staff members have been sharing flyers and promoting the Commission’s toll-free number 1523, while answering numerous questions from the public about its use and operationalization.
The visits by Commissioners and staff to other exhibition stands and their interactions with visitors at the Esplanade of the Yaoundé City Hall resulted in a total of 66 registered visitors, including complainants, being received at the legal aid clinic hosted at the CHRC stand.

Among the notable visitors to the CHRC stand was the Minister of Communication, Mr René Emmanuel Sadi, who represented the Prime Minister/ Head of Government. He commended the CHRC for its consistent effort in raising awareness through the publication of impactful statements on the occasion of both African and International Human Rights Days. He also encouraged the CHRC to continue its admirable efforts in the promotion and protection of human rights as well the prevention of torture in places of detention. During the visit, staff members of the CHRC presented the Minister with a gift bag containing awareness tools and official reports published by the Commission.

The CHRC seizes this opportunity to invite the general public to attend the ongoing Government Action Fair and visit its stand. This is an opportunity to gain deeper insights into the Cameroon National Human Rights Institutions, report any suspected human rights violations, and familiarize themselves with the operation of the Commission’s toll-free number, 1523.
